We all have experienced this when asked where we are from:
· “Franklin… Hunterdon County”
· “Franklin… by Clinton”
· “Franklin… by Flemington”
· “Quakertown”
· “Pittstown”
· “Cherryville”
· Or we just give up and say “Clinton” or “Flemington”
Even our local papers get things confused, sometimes listing statistics from Franklin in Somerset County for our Franklin! This is no surprise. There are 6 Franklins in the state of NJ alone:
· Hunterdon County
· Somerset County
· Essex County
· Warren County
· Gloucester County
· Bergen County
Random conversations with residents have indicated shared frustrations and great support for the idea of renaming our township to “FRANKLIN HILLS”:
· One of the most stunning views in our area is the expanse of farmland and hills on the corner of Cherryville Road and Sidney Road
· Topographically, Franklin has many hilly areas. The elevation change throughout the township spans 500 feet
· There is already a Franklin Lakes, NJ
· Per Google Search, there are only 2 Franklin Hills in the entire US (Franklin Hills, California (East Hollywood) and Franklin Hills (Montana)
· Note that this potential change would not affect the name of the school
We have a team willing to spearhead the effort and possibly some vendors to donate design and printing services to cover the costs incurred.
By simply adding one word, we can all solve a problem and make township history.
Please vote Yes or No on this proposal before 2.28.17 and invite your friends and neighbors to do the same.
We also invite you to express your views to include any relevant information in the comments section.
We need at least 300 respondents before the Town Committee decides on the next step.
