Solar power is a growing American success story. According to Solar Energy Industries Association, the US currently has at over 44 gigawatts (GW) of total installed capacity, enough to power 8.7 million American homes. Every two minutes, another American family or business is going solar. Most importantly, the US has the potential to produce 100 times more solar power than the amount of energy we consume each year. The barriers to solar are falling faster than ever, too, with more and more cities, states and companies adopting innovative pro-solar policies that have made solar cheaper and easier to install. Back in 2010, New Jersey was the sixth-largest solar market in the world and the second in the nation in terms of solar installations (first if solar capacity were to be calculated on a per-square-mile basis).
