From September through May, we provide free afterschool tutoring to low-income children. Our volunteer tutors include high school students and retired or working professionals, and they tutor K-12 grade students in subject specific material. Our tutors are paired with a student or several students for the year to develop a relationship. S2G also takes middle school student volunteers as "Book Buddies" for K-3rd graders. The Book Buddies are trained to listen as the students read a book, and prompt questions for comprehension as well as help build vocabulary.
S2G also uses volunteers to help with its weekend/weekday workshops in a variety of enrichment activities such as violin, chess, robotics, drumming, dance as well as math, writing and reading fundamentals. These classes have approximately 10-15 students weekly with an instructor. The workshops average 5-6 weeks, for three cycles a year.

Our Summer Enrichment Program is a four-week, four-day program from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m, Monday through Thursday. We need approximately 20 junior/senior high school students each day. Their commitment can be full day or half day. The students start with academics in the morning, then participate in three electives in the afternoon. Our volunteers help out with morning arrival, breakfast service, one-on-one class support, lunch service, afternoon activities and dismissal. We also use two to three volunteers to help with end of the day clean up. The students are pre- and post-tested and we train some of the volunteers on how to administer parts of the tests.
