The Community Garden Project is about bringing people together with the purposes of promoting eco-friendly gardening practices and producing local organic food. It also seeks to build a community of neighbors, friends and families that want to make our communities more sustainable and livable places. This project is sponsored by NEEC (Northeast Earth Coalition), a Montclair based non-profit organization that promotes sustainable gardening, organic local food and urban farming.

We are now seeking Four Program Coordinators to help us carry out our mission and increase the number of community gardens in Montclair. This role helps to extend the resources in the Northeast Earth Coalition to better assist the needs of our clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Helping with spring clean up at the assigned community garden

• Writing e-mails, data entry as well as use of social media to promote the project

• Planting and garden maintenance

• Coordinating meetings

• Other duties specifically around coordination of special events, or as assigned

Requirements

• Have commitment to social causes, particularly to social justice and environmental protection

• Be dependable and punctual

• Be courteous and personable when dealing with the public

• Be self-directed, willing to take initiative, and detail-oriented

• Respect and maintain confidentiality of NEEC volunteers, partners, and donors

• Computer skills Training & Supervision

• Must complete an orientation for coordinators about the projects that they will work with, including the following items: a) Organic Gardening training; b) Soil composition, composting and planting season; and c) Community Outreach

• Training and supervision will be conducted by: Jose German, David Wasmuth or designated trainer Evaluation

• All volunteers complete a 7 day evaluation period Time Commitment

• 4.5 hours per week for seven weeks for a total of 30 hours.
