There are two reasons that biking should be encouraged among Montclairians. First, it is free of carbon emissions. Second, it provides excellent exercise for our residents. One way in which cities in the United States and abroad have encouraged biking is by creating bike lanes. Montreal has created an elaborate network of bike lanes over the past few years that its citizens have seen the benefits of. Montclair should be a leader in Northern New Jersey on this issue. Bike paths could be created on long streets such as Park and Grove and then expanded to other parts of town. Ideally, Montclair could also work with neighboring towns like Bloomfield and Glen Ridge to construct bike paths.
